Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro: zero-residue tomatoes production and processing

After two years of studies and tests, Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro has produced and processed zero-residue tomatoes during tomato crop 2019, thanks to innovations and advanced technologies of Agriculture 4.0.

The project has involved 50 hectares of soil cultivated with tomato, in the province of Cremona, near the plant based in Rivarolo del Re, owned by Casalasco Agricola. This last society, managed by Consorzio Casalasco, was born in 2016 with the aim to develop and implement individually the activity of varietal experimentation, the use of new technologies directly in open field and the achievement of more sustainable cultural practices, making the most of corporate know-how.

With zero residue treatment, agrochemicals are completely absent, i.e. below the threshold of detectability of analysis tool, that is 0,01 mg/kg. These standards are to be satisfied only adopting a strict protocol with special interventions and respecting biodegradation times of synthetic molecules.

Zero-residue policy is an evolution of organic product, a further step forward in order to offer more healthy, sustainable and safe products, following consumer’s trend.

Consorzio Casalasco aims to increase in the next few years the surfaces cultivated adopting this practice, involving all farmers-associated, in order to be able to offer more and more natural products to clients and final consumer.
