The leading tomato group in Italy further enriches its brand portfolio with three iconic Italian tradition brands, established for over 50 years.

Milan – February 13, 2025. Gruppo Casalasco announces a new acquisition. The agreement for the transfer of the business unit related to the brands was finalized in the past few hours. Pummarò, Polpabella, and Sugo Lampo from STAR Alimentare SpA (part of the GB Foods Group) to Casalasco Società Agricola S.p.A.
The brands, launched by STAR in the 1970s and having become a true icon of tomato preserves, will enrich Gruppo Casalasco's offering both nationally and internationally by joining the brands already owned.
“This new operation – states Costantino Vaia, CEO of Casalasco S.p.A. – comes just weeks after the finalization of the agreement with Unilever for the "Knorr Tomato al Gusto" sauce range and is part of a decisive national and international growth strategy. Brands like Pummarò, Pomì, and De Rica – Vaia continues – are synonymous with tradition, quality, and Made in Italy excellence, all values that distinguish our supply chain.”
Gruppo Casalasco, already a co-packer for STAR for over 15 years, represents the largest integrated industrial tomato supply chain in Italy, ranking seventh worldwide, and brings together 800 Italian farms operating in the cultivation and harvesting of fresh tomatoes, which are then processed on the 70 lines of production at the 5 plants located in the provinces of Cremona, Parma, and Piacenza.
This agreement will allow STAR to focus on the core categories of its portfolio, while for the Casalasco Group, it represents an opportunity for further growth in the tomato segment.
