Last Sunday (editor's note: October 3rd) concluded the 2021 industrial tomato harvest campaign of the Consorzio Casalasco del Pomodoro with record numbers in terms of both quality and quantity.
The cooperative's three production plants – Rivarolo del Re (CR), Gariga di Podenzano (PC), Fontanellato (PR) - processed a total of almost 570,000 tons of fresh tomatoes, in line with the maximum production levels already achieved in the 2017 campaign.
This extremely positive result was also made possible by the favorable weather from the beginning to the end of the campaign, characterized by the absence of rain, which allowed for a high and uninterrupted pace of harvesting and processing. The plants consistently operated at full capacity throughout the period, almost constantly exceeding 10,000 tons per day of processed tomatoes.
In terms of quality, an average brix value higher than normal, an excellent color of the fruits and production yields in the field of over 80 tons/hectare.
The Casalasco Consortium has, as usual, collected all the raw material from its members, including the excess due to higher-than-expected yields in the field.
Overall, during the processing season, over 750 seasonal workers were employed at the Consortium's facilities, in addition to the employees regularly employed throughout the year, for a total of approximately 1,700 employees.
